Daniel Keyes (1927-2015). A diciassette anni si è arruolato in Marina, imbarcandosi poi come commissario di bordo. Tornato a New York, dopo essersi laureato in Psicologia, ha insegnato a lungo, soprattutto a ragazzi con difficoltà di apprendimento. Proprio questo lavoro gli ha fornito lo spunto per il suo esordio narrativo, Fiori per Algernon: un successo mondiale, pubblicato in più di trenta Paesi e continuamente ristampato. A partire dagli anni '80, si è dedicato prevalentemente alla non-fiction e con Una stanza piena di gente (Nord 2009) ha ottenuto una nomination al prestigioso Edgar Award. La quinta Sally (Nord 2018) ha segnato il suo ritorno alla narrativa. Nel 2000, la Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America lo ha insignito del Premio Author Emeritus.
