FODDER, A Goblin's War

This audiobook is narrated by a digital voice. Grik has been a soldier for seven days. He is small, he is clever, and he is standing in a trench full of mud, waiting for the knights to come. In the Mudfields, goblins don’t win medals. They get spent: sent in first, bled white, left behind. Warboss Grimzhar has ten thousand of them and he spends them like copper. Grik has worked out that the only goblins who get a say in how they die are the ones who stop being fodder. So when the Ragwings come looking for volunteers, he makes sure he’s first in line. The Ragwings are a half-mad glider corps who throw themselves off cliffs with bombs in their fists. Grik also makes sure his friends think it was their idea. From the air, Grik sees the whole war. He sees knights sworn never to turn their backs while the sun is up, and spider-riding clans who sell themselves to the highest bidder. He sees dwarves with rune-cut cannon and a book of grudges four hundred years long, and elves who would rather lose a war than leave their forest. And down in the dark, he sees what the shamans have woken in the earth. It is very old, and it is very hungry. The horde is winning. Grik is starting to wonder what it’s winning for. FODDER is grimdark war fantasy from the bottom of the pecking order: brutal, blackly funny, and told by the goblin nobody was watching. Book One of the Long Harvest.
