Freshly Departed

Supernatural Thriller – Dark Comedy – Southern Gothic A dead mob heir is supposed to stay dead. Patricia Martinez has enough problems without a corpse that refuses to behave. Her family funeral home, Saint Jude's Rest, is drowning in debt, and one high-profile funeral could be the difference between saving her grandmother's legacy and losing it to foreclosure. Then Jack Cruz arrives. Twenty-seven, brutally autopsied, and supposedly gone for good, Jack should be nothing more than Patricia's most difficult restoration job. Instead, an antique embalming compound brings him back with no memories, an alarming appetite for butter, and an irresistible connection to music. Patricia's problems get worse when Owen Sullivan, a relentless parish health inspector, arrives with orders to shut her funeral home down. But Owen has secrets of his own—and a reason to believe Jack's death is connected to a much larger conspiracy involving corrupt officials, a ruthless corporation, and missing people. As the clock races toward Jack's public wake, Patricia and Owen must hide an impossible secret while keeping the funeral home open, the mob at bay, and Jack cold enough to survive. Because someone wants this corpse back. A darkly comic Southern Gothic supernatural thriller packed with mystery, macabre humor, danger, and an unexpectedly tender heart.
