Freya's Child

What would a parent do to save their child? Fight the dead? Defy the gods? Helen Gunn hopes moving to the Wirral will give her family the fresh start they desperately need. After her husband's breakdown, a new home offers the chance to rebuild their fractured marriage and provide stability for their three-year-old daughter, Charlotte. Instead, Charlotte begins speaking to people who aren't there. Dark figures haunt the house. Whispers echo through empty rooms. And as Charlotte becomes increasingly drawn to an unseen presence, Helen realises their home is connected to something far older—and far more dangerous than a simple haunting. To save her daughter, she'll have to confront a force that has waited over a thousand years to awaken. England, AD 902. After years of war and exile, Einaar wants only peace. Following the Viking leader Ingimund, he and his family are finally granted land by the English ruler Æthelflæd, where they hope to build a new life. But Ingimund's ambitions are far from over. As a mysterious sickness spreads through the settlement, he declares that the old gods demand a sacrifice. Anyone suspected of standing in his way will be offered to them. For the first time in his life, Einaar must choose between loyalty to his people and the life of his child. When a modern archaeological dig uncovers the lost Viking settlement, the past refuses to stay buried. Some secrets were never meant to be unearthed, and the ancient gods are not finished collecting what they are owed. Some legends are buried for a reason.
