Great Stillness, The
The Great Stillness explores the silent, still, empty openness that lies behind all experience – within which everything moves, lives and exists. Like clouds appearing in the sky, thoughts, feelings and perceptions arise in this great silence, which is not a state to be attained but the very nature of the mind. Recorded during a weekend online retreat with Rupert Spira, these guided meditations and conversations invite us to make no attempt to control the mind, but to go directly to the stillness behind it. This stillness is not something we know; it is what we are. The ‘I am’ is a portal that leads from the sorrow and agitation of the mind into the silence of the heart – a beacon shining in the midst of all experience, indicating the place of peace, the refuge of the now, God’s presence. We are invited to view all experience with disinterested affection, to allow being to come to the foreground, and to discover for ourself the meaning of the words ‘Be still and know that I am God’.
