865 A.D. Warring kings rule over the British Isles, but the Church rules over the kings. At the center of this bloody conflict is Shef, bastard son of a Norse raider and a captive English lady. A smith and a warrior, he is driven by strange visions that seem to come from Odin himself. Torn by divided loyalties, Shef alone dares to imagine new weapons and tactics with which to carve out a kingdom - and threaten the holy power of Rome itself!

Harry Harrison è stato uno scrittore, glottoteta ed esperantista statunitense, autore di romanzi di fantascienza ed editor di riviste. Ha vissuto in diverse parti del mondo tra Messico, Inghilterra, Irlanda, Danimarca e Italia, per questo è stato un forte sostenitore dell'Esperanto che propose spesso nei suoi romanzi, soprattutto nelle serie del Ratto d'acciaio e del Pianeta impossibile. È stato anche presidente onorario dell'associazione esperantista irlandese.È autore sia di fumetti sia di romanzi di fantascienza, e ha raggiunto la notorietà con Largo!
