Kenneth Oppel (Porto Alberni 1967) ha deciso di diventare scrittore ancora ragazzino. È laureato in Letteratura inglese e Cinema all'Università di Toronto e vive con la moglie e i figli a Toronto. Il suo primo romanzo, Colin's Fantastic Video Adventure, fu pubblicato nel 1985 in Gran Bretagna, Canada, USA e poi in Francia. Ha vinto diversi premi: con il romanzo Airborn ha vinto nel 2004 il Governor General's Award for children's literature e il Michael L. Printz Honor Book award della American Library Association.
