(Haverford, Pennsylvania, 1890 - Roslyn Heights, New York, 1957) scrittore statunitense. Nei suoi raffinati romanzi (Tuono a sinistra, Thunder on the left, 1925; Il cavallo di Troia, The troyan horse, 1937) intreccia motivi umoristici e sentimentali in atmosfere incantate e assurde, interpretando con ironica eleganza di epigono le lezioni dello sperimentalismo europeo. In Kitty Foyle (1939) narra l’autobiografica «storia naturale» di una donna della Filadelfia degli anni Trenta, proponendo una versione comica del romanzo di costume.
