“The Darkness Is Coming.” All her life Christa has hidden her powers from the world, and the sadistic ruler hunting her people. Though widowed young and left with three children also bearing the weight of such forbidden powers, she's managed to keep such dangerous secrets concealed. She's blended in. She's become human. But her luck is running out. Her city is starving. Her loyalties have been called to question. And the man who built his kingdom and his reputation on the annihilation of Christa’s people… is heading to her sanctuary. Mind lost and body shattered by the sadistic General’s unceasing torture, Alice longs for freedom. Thirteen cycles living in his cage has stripped away everything that she once was, and left nothing more than a terrified shell that barely remembers her life before him. So when a man of uncertain loyalties offers her a chance to escape, Alice rallies her last ounce of hope and flees with him. But Alice is weak, broken, dying, and cannot make it far. With The General close behind, and desperation spurring the woman beyond all logic, she seeks sanctuary in Christa's city, begging the secretive woman for safety. If Christa turns her away, The General will surely execute the prisoner bold enough to escape his prison, but if she opens her home and offers her safety, what sort of destruction will fall on her city?
