Designs and ornamentation found application in, among other things, fabrics and textiles, kimo-nos, gift wrapping paper, book decoration, as well as in adornment of the most varied kinds of commercial products. A decor which is enriched with very simple basic graphic elements, and reflects, in its ordering, the high sensitivity to form of the Japanese orna-mental style. The simple symbolism, the graphic clarity, and the signal character of the motifs, their arrangement in rows, reiteration, duplication or mirroring, their repeat or their symmetry, bear unmistakably the hallmarks of stamp or block printing, which suggests that they early came into use. ;
