The Kingdom

THE KINGDOM A dead accountant. A forgotten agreement. A powerful Welsh family. And a date that has been waiting for one hundred years. When Scottish investigator Morrisson McKane arrives in Wales to investigate the suspicious death of an accountant, he expects corruption, money and perhaps a murder. He finds something far larger. The Vaughan family has spent generations quietly acquiring influence over transport, energy, banking, agriculture, communications and land. Around them, strange events are unfolding: mysterious bells, disappearing accountants, manipulated identities, underground archives and a bizarre protest movement that has spread across Wales and far beyond. At first, the chaos appears to be political. It isn't. Behind the noise lies a private agreement signed in 1927 — an economic contingency created by seven powerful families and preserved through generations. Now, one hundred years later, the Vaughan family is ready to activate the final stage of a plan that has been decades in the making. But McKane discovers that the most dangerous part of the conspiracy is not what the Vaughans have built. It is what they believe they are entitled to inherit. As 14 October 2027 approaches, old records begin contradicting official history, the dead become witnesses, and a forgotten map left by McKane's mother reveals a network hiding in plain sight.
