The last causeway

The tide has begun returning things that haven't been lost yet. Engineer Nora Veitch has come back to Gannet Island to help undo what her family helped build: a sixty-year-old causeway that cut an estuary in two and bound an isolated community to the mainland. Then, on the first day the Atlantic is allowed back in, Nora finds something impossible in the mud. A marine radio. It belongs to her brother, Eli. The problem is that Eli's radio is still clipped to his jacket. The recovered one is shattered, salt-corroded, and carrying a distress transmission dated eleven days in the future. Through the static comes Eli's voice—and fragments of a confession to a death that has not yet happened. Soon, the basin begins surrendering more objects from days ahead. Each one turns the future into evidence. And each choice Nora makes to prevent what she has heard seems to pull her family, the island, and the failing causeway closer to it. As a storm closes in and decades of buried decisions surface with the tide, Nora must confront a terrifying possibility: knowing what happens next may not give her the power to stop it. It may be the reason it happens at all. The Last Causeway is an atmospheric eco-gothic suspense novel about family, responsibility, fractured communities, and the dangerous human desire to control what cannot be known.
