The Last Train Home

The 23:30 from London Euston to Glasgow Central enters a tunnel. It never comes out. At least, not for Hannah Keane. Eighty-three passengers remain trapped aboard a train that should have reached Glasgow hours ago. Their phones still work. Their families still answer. And according to everyone outside, the train arrived perfectly normally. There is just one problem. Some of the passengers arrived with it. When Hannah calls her younger brother, he tells her something impossible: he has already collected her from Glasgow Central. Another Hannah Keane is standing beside him. She has the same face, the same memories, the same clothes — and the same certainty that she is real. But not everyone aboard has a duplicate. Some passengers never arrived at all. And four people stepped off the train who were never on it. As the trapped passengers travel deeper into a railway system that no longer obeys distance, time or history, Hannah begins to uncover something far larger than a missing train. Other journeys have vanished before. Other versions of people have survived lives that never happened. And somewhere beneath Glasgow Central, a train that disappeared more than a century ago is still trying to complete its journey. Soon the question is no longer how Hannah gets home. It is which Hannah gets to go there. And what happens to everyone else when reality decides there should only ever have been one. Because sometimes the last train home isn't taking you home. It's deciding which home gets to exist.
