Thomas Campion

(Londra 1567-1620) poeta e musicista inglese. Scrisse i Poemata in latino (1595), un trattato di musica, alcuni masques (? masque), rappresentati a corte, e quattro Libri di canzoni (Books of ayres 1601-17), in parte musicate. Nelle Osservazioni sulla poesia inglese (Observations in the art of english poesie, 1602) affermò la superiorità della prosodia classica sulla rima; ma nelle canzoni riprese la tradizione popolare inglese, creando schemi metrici adatti a un linguaggio semplice e melodioso.
