1919, Kermanshah (Persia)

Doris Lessing (Doris May Taylor) è nata in Persia (Iran), figlia di genitori inglesi, nel 1919, e ha vissuto l’infanzia a Kermanshah dove il padre lavorava in una banca. Nel 1925 la famiglia si è trasferita nella colonia britannica della Rhodesia (oggi Zimbabwe) a gestire una fattoria. Doris Lessing ha studiato in un convento e poi in una scuola femminile di Salisbury, che ha abbandonato a quattordici anni. Ha completato la sua formazione da autodidatta, leggendo i grandi classici della letteratura. Ha lasciato la casa paterna a quindici anni. Nel 1937 si è trasferita a Salisbury ed è iniziato il suo impegno politico, nella sinistra non razzista. A diciannove anni si sposa con Frank Charles Wisdom e ha da lui due figli, John e Jean. Divorzia dal marito e lascia...
