Nemesis

Adam Robertson has a good life. He teaches English, has been married to Claire for years, and has two daughters he adores. There are problems, of course, but nothing that makes him think his whole life could disappear overnight. Then Xenia arrives at his school. She's new, intelligent, a little difficult to read, and she soon becomes close friends with Adam's daughter Larissa. Adam doesn't think much of it. Why would he? Then Xenia accuses him of something he says he didn't do. From that moment on, it doesn't really matter what Adam's life looked like before. The police are involved. His job is at risk. People who have known him for years begin looking at him differently. Even inside his own family, the same question keeps returning: What if she's telling the truth? Adam insists she isn't. But proving that is another matter. And then something from eighteen years ago begins to surface. A woman Adam hasn't seen in years. A decision he thought belonged to another lifetime. Questions about why Xenia came to this particular school and why she chose Larissa as her friend. The accusation may not have been where this story started. And Adam may not be the only person who has been keeping secrets. For readers who enjoy Harlan Coben's buried pasts and sudden reversals, Lisa Jewell's unsettling family secrets, and Gillian Flynn's fascination with the dangerous gap between truth and what people choose to believe. NEMESIS is a psychological thriller about a family forced to decide how well they really know one another when an accusation brings the past back into their lives. There are no easy heroes here. No easy villains either. Just people with different versions of the same story and a truth that has been waiting eighteen years to come out.
