Night Bloom
At forty-four, Zoe Carter has built a life around being the person everyone can depend on. At work, she solves problems before they become crises. In her family, she is the sister, aunt, and steady hand everyone calls when something goes wrong. Zoe has spent so many years taking care of what needs to be done that she rarely stops long enough to ask what she needs for herself. Then, an aunt she barely knew leaves her an old house in Savannah. Zoe expects to spend a few weeks sorting through belongings, arranging repairs, and preparing the property for sale. Instead, she discovers a neglected garden that transforms after midnight, bursting into impossible blooms that disappear by morning. Among her aunt's belongings are old photographs, handwritten records, and traces of women whose stories reach back generations, including the portrait of a mysterious woman painted in 1921 who bears an unsettling resemblance to Zoe. The deeper Zoe searches, the more she realizes the women in her family have been keeping secrets for more than a century. Some chose to stay. Some chose to leave. Some tried to close the gate behind them. And some may have called back what should have been allowed to go. As the garden begins revealing a history of love, grief, ancestral memory, and choices passed from one generation of women to the next, Zoe must decide how much of the past she is willing to carry—and whether inheritance is something that binds us to what came before or gives us the freedom to choose what comes next. Set beneath the moss-draped oaks of Savannah, Night Bloom is an atmospheric Southern Gothic novel of ancestral magic, family secrets, mysterious women, and a garden that remembers long after everyone else has tried to forget.
