Old Enough to Know Better: A Sapphic Age-Gap Romance

Carol Mercer knows better. She's forty-four, divorced, newly out, and finally learning how to build a life that belongs to her. She has two children, a sensible job, an old coat she refuses to replace, and absolutely no intention of becoming the kind of woman who makes reckless decisions in bars. Then Celeste Reese buys her a drink. Celeste is eighteen, impossibly beautiful, and far too confident. She is also one of fashion's fastest-rising stars: photographed, recognised, flown across Europe, and accustomed to being watched wherever she goes. Carol assumes the attraction must be a joke. Celeste disagrees. What begins with coffee becomes flowers at the office, glamorous dinners, fashion events, stolen sweatshirts, school schedules, paparazzi, bad pasta, and one increasingly unavoidable truth: Celeste doesn't want a younger version of Carol. She wants Carol. But being wanted is one thing. Letting herself be seen is another. As their relationship pulls Carol from the quiet routines of her ordinary life into Celeste's dazzling public world, she must decide whether being sensible means walking away—or whether she has spent too many years confusing caution with fear. Funny, sensual, glamorous, and deeply romantic, Old Enough to Know Better is a sapphic age-gap romance about visibility, desire, second chances, and the terrifying possibility that the fairy tale might actually be choosing you.
