The Pale Fare

At 2:17 in the morning, nineteen-year-old Chidinma enters a white taxi whose meter reads zero. By dawn, she has vanished - one more name in a case the government has trained itself not to see. Detective Sergeant Ifeoma Adachukwu has spent two years investigating the Collector: a driver with no identifiable face,a car that disappears from every camera and a meter that counts something far more valuable than money. When parapsychologist Dr Maren Okwu reveals that the disappearances are linked to a secret political bargain, the investigation leads to a buried ledger, forty stolen lives and the highest office in the Republic of Mabara. To stop the Collector, Fifi and Maren must confront a president who turned private grief into public sacrifice - and a road that remembers every unpaid debt. But even after the account is settled, the warning itself becomes an invitation. The haunting finds a new driver, and this time the fare may be everyone willing to listen. The Pale Fare is a chilling supernatural political thriller about grief, corruption, memory and the terrible price of allowing power to decide whose life can be spent.
