William Ury, antropologo sociale formatosi ad Harvard, presso cui dirige il Project on Preventing War, è uno dei maggiori negoziatori al mondo. È inoltre scrittore e conferenziere. Ha mediato in situazioni molto difficili gli scioperi nelle miniere carbonifere del Kentucky, conflitti etnici come quelli in Medio Oriente e nei Balcani, e nell'Unione Sovietica prima della formale dissoluzione nel 1992.
