The Program
The most dangerous prisons are the ones that look like hospitals. Investigative journalist Carys Lennox knows how to uncover the truth, but her latest assignment might be her last. Going undercover as a patient at the Carthage Recovery Center—an isolated rehab facility in upstate New York—Carys intends to investigate rumors of missing patients. Once inside, she is stripped of her phone, her identity, and her connections to the outside world. Dr. Nolan Feld runs the program with a terrifyingly charismatic grip. On the surface, the center offers healing and structure. But Carys soon discovers a shadow system: double-bookkeeping, tamper-proof window screws secretly installed in the dead of night, and vulnerable patients who "graduate" overnight without their toothbrushes. The facility is a front, funneling patients into a lucrative forced-labor trafficking network disguised as a step-down program. When her own file is flagged for transfer, the clock starts ticking. With her cover blown and no way to call for help, Carys must rely on a fragile alliance with a grief-stricken father and a desperate fugitive. To expose a criminal empire worth millions, she has to survive the clinical gaslighting, gather the evidence, and escape the facility. If she fails, she'll become just another name in Dr. Feld's ledger.
