Relentless Positivity

Four-time World Series champion and Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts pulls back the curtain on one of the most quietly powerful leadership philosophies in professional sports: an unshakable belief in the power of optimism, accountability, and human connection. Baseball is a game of failure, where even the best players succeed three times out of ten. For Roberts, that statistic represents an opportunity. In Relentless Positivity, he reveals how leading through uncertainty, pressure, and loss has taught him the secret to long-term success: meeting people where they are, embracing the mess, and having the courage to show a relentless, almost irrational positivity that helps your team step into its full potential. Drawing on stories from the clubhouse and the world stage—from his iconic stolen base with the 2004 Red Sox to a decade of managing the Dodgers to World Series glory—Roberts shares cornerstone principles that have shaped his approach to leadership and life, including: Be the thermostat, not the thermometer: How to bring the energy your team needs instead of simply reacting to the mood around you. Clarity before commitment: Being candid about expectations creates stronger buy-in than getting someone to say yes without understanding what’s required of them. Everyone has to want the ball: How to prepare like anyone on the team can be the one who steps up when it matters most. Hope changes everything: You can’t always change your circumstances, but you can train yourself to recognize the opportunity that’s still available. Blending stories from a championship locker room with the insights of a master motivator, Roberts delivers a field-tested guide for anyone leading through complexity, whether in the stadium, in the conference room, or at home. Written for a time when our models for leadership are rapidly evolving, Relentless Positivity is a timely manifesto for building strong teams, resilient cultures, and sustaining personal success in any field.
