A Stranger's Pose

A Stranger's Pose draws readers into a world of encounters across more than a dozen African towns through stories remembered and imagined, alongside striking images by acclaimed photographers. Blending memoir, travel writing and storytelling, Emmanuel Iduma traces a journey across several African cities. Inspired by his travels with photographers between 2011 and 2015, his personal reflections are interwoven with stories of movement, estrangement and intimacy. From an arrest in a market in N'Djamena and an encounter with a gendarmes officer on a Cameroonian highway to meeting the renowned photographer Malick Sidibé in Bamako, these vivid fragments create a rich and deeply personal portrait of contemporary Africa.
