The Twelve

An old man walks into a Birmingham police station and reports a murder that hasn't happened yet. He knows the victim. He knows the weapon. He knows exactly when the body will be found. And he has a list of twelve names. Leonard Huxley claims he is eighty-three years old. There is just one problem: according to his date of birth, he won't be born until next year. DI Tessa Marlowe doesn't believe him. Then his first prediction comes true. Soon, impossible memories begin surfacing. People remember children they never had, lives they never lived and futures that no longer exist. At the centre of it all is JANUS — a technology capable of choosing between possible futures — and twelve ordinary people whose lives are somehow connected to what humanity will become. But Leonard is hiding something. He hasn't come back simply to prevent the future. He has been here before. As reality begins to fracture and tomorrow becomes something that can be remembered, selected and rewritten, Tessa must uncover the truth about Leonard, the Twelve and a question far more dangerous than whether the future can be changed: If you could choose a better world, who gets to decide what "better" means? A high-concept British science-fiction thriller about memory, identity, loss, free will and the terrifying consequences of knowing what comes next.
