Barbara Pym

(Oswestry, Shropshire, 1913 - Finstock, Oxfordshire, 1980) scrittrice inglese. Nei primi romanzi (Qualcuno da amare, Some tame gazelle, 1950; Donne eccellenti, Excellent women, 1952; Un sacco di benedizioni, A glass of blessings, 1958) descrisse con lieve umorismo la vita di paese. Dopo un silenzio durato lunghi anni pubblicò Quartetto in autunno (Quartet in autumn, 1977) che segnò la sua definitiva affermazione. Seguirono i romanzi: Se una dolce colomba The sweet dove died, 1979) e Qualche foglia verde (Few green leaves, 1980), e altri ancora, pubblicati postumi.
