Virginia Woolf è stata una scrittrice, saggista e attivista britannica. Considerata una delle scrittrici più rivoluzionarie del Novecento, nelle sue opere ha saputo sempre mettere la realtà sopra ogni cosa. «Non potete mettere alcun cancello, alcun catenaccio, alcun lucchetto alla libertà del mio pensiero.»Nata il 25 gennaio 1882 e figlia di Leslie Stephen, celebre storiografo e critico, crebbe in un ambiente coltissimo, frequentato da artisti, letterati, storici e critici. Secondo le regole della buona società vittoriana, venne educata privatamente.Tramite il fratello Thoby, entrato a Cambridge nel 1899, strinse amicizia con i discepoli del filosofo G.E. Moore, gli «Apostoli» del Trinity College (tra essi B. Russell, G. Lytton...
