Anti-Coronavirus Marine Bioactive Compounds

This unique volume summarizes emerging approaches based on in silico, in vitro, in vivo, and clinical studies to uncover the potential and the underlying mechanisms of diverse marine bioactive compounds to inhibit SARS-CoV-2 and its variants and, hence, pave the way for drug discovery devoted to the management of COVID-19. Investigating a range of natural compounds for their anti-SARS-CoV-2 activity, this volume offers in-depth insights into molecular mechanisms that can inhibit viral/host protein targets of SARS-CoV-2. It highlights the action of marine bioactive compounds based on advanced bioinformatics tools such as molecular docking, computer simulation, and systems pharmacology, as well as multiple omics and high-throughput technologies. Chapters discuss the modes of action by selected marine polysaccharides, terpenoids, astaxanthin, and an indole-alkaloid (holyrine A) for combating SARS-CoV-2, and propose their potential role in COVID-19 management. Finally, a chapter discusses the role of marine bioactive compounds that include some traditional remedies from Southeast Asia for combating SARS-CoV-2 infection.
