Architecture et representations dans l'Iran sassanide

Ce volume reunit les cinq communications presentees dans le cadre des "Conferences d'etudes iraniennes Ehsan et Latifeh Yarshater", organisees en 2014 par l'Unite Mixte de Recherche 7528 "Mondes iranien et indien" au College de France a Paris. L'auteur propose un etat de la question relative a la culture architecturale et figurative de l'Iran sassanide, sur la base d'une nouvelle evaluation globale des differents temoignages architecturaux et artistiques connus et a la lumiere des recentes decouvertes publiees en Iran au cours des dernieres annees. Leur objectif, loin de pretendre a l'exhaustivite, est de permettre une meilleure comprehension de l'utilisation des espaces batis, des formes d'expression et de communication visuelle et des mecanismes de la production artisanale. Deux chapitres sont dedies a l'architecture, domaine dans lequel nous sommes encore loin d'avoir atteint un consensus generalise; un chapitre est consacre a une production artistique fortement liee a l'architecture, celle des stucs. Les deux autres s'attachent a l'approfondissement des aspects technico-stylistiques de types de productions etudies jusqu'ici majoritairement du point de vue de l'iconographie, ceux des reliefs rupestres et des sceaux. This volume contains the text of the five "Ehsan and Latifeh Yarshater Distinguished Lectures on Iranian Studies", organized by the Unite Mixte de Recherche 7528 "Mondes iranien et indien", and delivered at the College de France in Paris. The aim of this book is to take stock of the architectural and figurative culture of Sasanian Iran on the basis of a new comprehensive evaluation of the varied range of architectural and artistic evidence known to us, and in the light of the recent discoveries published in Iran over the last few years. Without any pretence of being exhaustive, the idea is to bring more light to bear on the utilisation of built-up areas, forms of expression and visual communication, and the mechanisms involved in artisanal production. Two chapters are dedicated to the architecture, a field in which we are far from having arrived at a general consensus, while another chapter deals with a category of artistic production closely linked to the architecture, namely stucco work. The other two chapters look into the technical-stylistic aspects of types of production so far studied mainly from the iconographic point of view: the rock reliefs and the seals.
