Alan Taylor è Thomas Jefferson Professor di Storia all'Università della Virginia. Ha scritto numerosi fortunati volumi dedicati ai primi secoli della storia americana. Ha vinto due volte il Premio Pulitzer. Il suo libro precedente, The Internal Enemy: Slavery and War in Virginia, 1772-1832, è stato finalista al National Book Award. Per Einaudi ha pubblicato Rivoluzioni americane. Una storia continentale, 1750-1804 (2017).
