A story about a young Irish woman who with the help of her sister and a priest gets an opportunity to leave her small Irish town to seek a better life in America. In Brooklyn, New York, she begins her new life as a resident in a boarding house owned by Mrs Kehoe. During the day she works in a Department Store and at night she studies bookkeeping. The protagonist, the prose, the setting, are right down to the 1950's era, a much simpler time. There are two guys involved in this story, two countries, one girl, one choice. Last night I viewed the film adaption of this novel. The film was excellent. Jean
