"The Campaign And Battle Of Gettysburg. From the Official Records Of The Union And Confederate Armies" by Colonel Gustav J. Fiebeger is a complete and exhaustive look at one of the pivotal battles of the American Civil War. Colonel Gustav J. Fiebeger (1858-1939) was U. S. soldier, military engineer, and author who was a Professor of Civil and Military Engineering at the U. S. Military at West Point, N. Y. from 1896-1922. While at West Point in 1915, he wrote this study of the campaign and battle of Gettysburg for the "use of the Cadets" of West Point. Colonel Fiebeger scoured the "Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies" & complied those that were relevant to the battle from the thousands of records contained in this huge resource. He then arranged them in date order; from Lee's planing in early June 1863 through the July 1-4 battle and then retreat of the Confederate Army. To this, he added his own commentary to connect the events into a coherent whole and explain in military terms the reasons for the results of the battle. The resulting book, in total, is an easy to follow and understand narration of the fateful events that both the campaign and battle portray. Colonel Fiebeger gives an overview of the Confederate decisions that led to their gamble to invade the North this second and final time. He shows the maneuvering that Lee's second invasion entailed and the various "fog of war" decisions taken by both sides that led both to the place AND the outcome of the battle. A must read for both the student of Civil War as well as the student of military history for background material and a complete explanation of the events that transpired during this all-important period of June-July 1863. There are approximately 50,500 words and approximately 168+ pages at 300 words per page in this e-book. NOTE: This book has been scanned then OCR (Optical Character Recognition) has been applied to turn the scanned page images back into editable text. Then every effort has been made to correct typos, spelling, and to eliminate stray marks picked up by the OCR program. The original and/or extra period images, if any, were then placed in the appropriate place and, finally, the file was formatted for the e-book criteria of the site. This means that the text CAN be re-sized, searches performed, & bookmarks added, unlike some other e-books that are only scanned---errors, stray marks, and all. We have added an Interactive Table of Contents & an Interactive List of Illustrations if any were present in the original. This means that the reader can click on the links in the Table of Contents or the List of Illustrations & be instantly transported to that chapter or illustration. Our aim is to provide the reader AND the collector with long out-of-print (OOP) classic books at realistic prices. If you load your mobile device(s) with our books, not only will you have fingertip access to a large library of antiquarian and out-of-print material at reasonable prices, but you can mark them up electronically & always have them for immediate reference without worrying about damage or loss to expensive bound copies. We will be adding to our titles regularly, look for our offerings on your favorite e-book site.
