Community Announcements

The Bahamas is a chain of coral islands stretching from just off Florida to just off Hispanola. Today, its small communities are held together by modern technology, but there was a time when the seperation made it difficult to maintain the kind of close communication necessary for the building of a nation. It was the Community Announcements, a kind of radio bulletin board timed to coincide with morning and evening meals, that kept Bahamians on the path to nationhood. This collection of stories remembers those days, as they share the island lifestyle of the nation of 700 islands.
