1965, New York

Richard Melville Hall (Moby) è nato a New York ed è cresciuto in Connecticut, dove ha iniziato a fare musica a 9 anni, suonando la chitarra classica e studiando teoria musicale. A 14 anni ha iniziato a suonare in un gruppo hardcore punk 'The Vatican Commandoes'. Successivamente si è unito alla band post-punk 'Awol' mentre studiava filosofia all'università del Connecticut. Ha iniziato la sua attività di djing già negli anni del college, proseguendo poi negli anni Ottanta a New York sulla scena house e hip-hop, lavorando in clubs come MARS, Red Zone, mk, e The Palladium.Ha realizzato il suo primo singolo, Go nel 1991 (incluso da Rolling Stones tra i best records of all time), e da allora ha sempre prodotto album.
