I mean, one of the basic things of learning is unlearning what you've learned, not just negative capability, but negative learning learning against what you've learned. You have to learn the stuff and then you see through it and you unlearn it."

La sua attività pubblica abbraccia un periodo di trentacinque anni, dal 1960 al 1995. Dal 1952 al 1953 ha vissuto in India. Poi a Zurigo, divenendo allievo di Jung.  Subito dopo la laurea al Trinity College di Dublino, aveva iniziato a portare avanti terapie di impronta junghiana già nel 1959, quando è stato nominato Director of Studies del C. G. Jung Institute, dove è rimasto sino al 1969, quando abbandona per una profonda crisi che gli fa rivedere interamente il modo di fare terapia. Nel frattempo nel 1960 aveva pubblicato a Londra il suo primo best-seller scientifico "Emotion: a comprehensive phenomenology of Theories and Their Meanings for Therapy". Nel 1970, diventato direttore delle Spring Pubblications ha lanciato una nuova scuola di indirizzo junghiano...
