THE ARTIST. Ernst Haeckel (1834–1919) was born in Germany and studied medicine at the University of Berlin. Often referred to as ‘The Man Who Merged Science with Art’, Haeckel spent his life researching flora and fauna. Not only did he discover, describe and name thousands of new species, but he captured their forms with incredible illustrations.
