Propr. Arthur Blakey. Batterista statunitense di jazz. Il suo ritmo esplosivo e gli effetti rullanti di derivazione africana si misero in luce nel bop e nel successivo hardbop. I suoi Jazz Messengers, gruppo fondato nel 1955, sono stati una fucina di giovani talenti.Art Blakey nacque l’11 ottobre del 1919 a Pittsburgh, in Pennsylvania. Già da ventenne suonava nelle big band di Fletcher Henderson e Mary Lou Williams, approdando così a New York. Grazie alla militanza nella big band di Billy Eckstine la sua fama si legò al movimento del nuovo jazz – il bebop – portandolo così a suonare con protagonisti chiamati Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis e Thelonious Monk. Fu con quest’ultimo che Blakey incise per la prima volta su etichetta...
