Poverty Alleviation Relocation in China: Theory, Policy and Practice

This is an Open access book which examines the historical evolution of poverty alleviation relocation policy and summarizes its implementation. It highlights typical practices and examples from different regions, focusing on community management, industrial support, and employment support. The book then analyzes challenges facing further development of these initiatives. Eight key provinces are featured—Gansu, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hunan, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Yunnan—representing major poverty alleviation relocation efforts during the 13th Five-year Plan period. Through case studies, the book examines the effectiveness, experiences, practices, challenges, and future directions of relocation programs in these provinces. It concludes with recommendations for improvement. This book shares Chinese experience and offers solutions to global poverty challenges. It is suitable for graduate students and researchers in related fields.
