Provocation

There is a word the Holy Spirit still speaks with urgency—a word that confronts every generation of believers with divine immediacy: "Today, if you will hear His voice, harden not your hearts." This is the provocation. Not the anger of God against the world, but the grief of God toward His own people when they delay, resist, or ignore His voice. Israel did not provoke God because they lacked miracles; they provoked Him because they lacked responsiveness. They saw His works but never learned His ways. They experienced His power but resisted His leading. And the Holy Spirit warns us that the same pattern can repeat in us.
