Written by a retired Police Officer, his chance encounter in 1975 with an extraordinary woman calling herself German Anna placed the writer of this powerful book on a path that would ultimately prompt him four decades later to create a story that would mirror her real life. Set in the 1880s, the novel does not conform to the usual story templates, and spans several literary genres. The story of German Anna and Mary is timeless, capturing the heart and imagination in a way that only stories based on real people can. Mary and the two men she loved are the only fictional characters in the book. The other characters represent people who the author met, and on occasion arrested, during his Police career. The story is set in an earlier time and away from the metropolitan area to avoid conflict with corrupt detectives who resent the author for the action he took against them. German Anna taught Mary how to make money, but Matt taught her how to kill. Mary was fifteen years old when she fell under the control of the ruthless lawyer who had secret plans for her. But he miscalculated. The girl he thinks he can control will grow into a powerful woman, her intellect as great as his own. In her loyalty to her new-found friends, Mary takes on the task appointed to her, but violence is unavoidable, love elusive and fame unexpected as she establishes a name for herself that will span the globe. Feeling totally alone, she gives her love to a fascinating and mysterious American who she knows will break her heart. But it is this man's love and support that prepares her for a battle that lies ahead, a battle that will either establish her name in history forever, or end in her violent death.
