The city's name is reputed to come from Soender-land, likely to be a reference to the valley carved out by the river that runs through the heart of the town. Some of the photos were taken on the famous Roker beach, some in Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. Others were taken in downtown Sunderland and in the neighbourhood of Ashbrooke.
