In Cortem, the fight for Sovran has just begun… Having tricked his way into becoming Sovran, Kenan hunts Roanna and her friends, accusing Nyx of murder and Roanna unworthy of remaining a Blue – the elite color in a society that requires citizens to wear the color of their sins. With the Patriarchs submissively backing Kenan, three Gifted feeding him information, the general population seduced by his lies, and an army of Enforcers imposing his despotic rule everywhere, overthrowing him seems impossible. But a loophole has been discovered in the Sovran's charter – if Roanna can offer three proofs of Kenan's mental instability, he will be recolored Red and lose his position. As Roanna's allies scrutinize his life for those proofs, they discover hints of murder and manipulation in his past, while his deadly party drug, Nitrocodeine, threatens the life of one of their own, sending Nyx on a quest to discover a cure. Yet while Roanna's group targets Kenan on multiple fronts, he is enacting his own deadly plan; one that will threaten the lives of thousands if they cannot stop him.
