Sebastian Barry è una figura di spicco del panorama letterario irlandese. Oltre ai numerosi testi teatrali e poetici, ricordiamo i romanzi A long long way (Instar Libri, 2007) e Il segreto (Bompiani, 2010). Grazie alle sue opere in prosa, è stato selezionato molte volte per il Man Booker Prize e ha vinto numerosi premi tra cui il James Tait Black Memorial Prize (2008), il Costa Book Award (2008, 2016) e il Walter Scott Prize (2012, 2017). Nel 2018, anno della pubblicazione di Giorni senza fine (Einaudi), è stato nominato «Irish fiction laureate».
