The Exorcist

The Exorcist: The Sign That Holds is an extreme psychological-horror story set in Sassi di Matera, where stone behaves like a living archive—holding moisture, sound, and memory, then "returning" them at the worst possible moment. Elena Serra, a heritage conservator, is already under pressure (work precarity, a fragile mother, the constant need to keep life "in order"). Her daughter Bianca, a sound/visual-arts student interning in hypogea and rock-hewn churches, completes an ancient incised sign left unfinished for centuries—closing a circuit that doesn't summon evil but locks it in place. Horror spreads through resonance: a recorded audio fragment captures a wrong, off-stress "Bianca" voice beneath static, and once the file circulates (chats/cloud), the contagion becomes social. The community weaponizes shame; institutions tighten the noose through reports, procedures, "evidence," and surveillance—turning Elena into the suspect. Two priests intervene (one as a bridge, one as a no-spectacle operator) with three controlled sessions, but the entity's real strategy is bureaucratic and psychological: it exploits control, guilt, language slippage, and public perception—leaving a "contaminated normalcy" even after the apparent climax.
