Jonathan Edwards

(Northampton, Massachusetts, 1703 - Schenectady, New York, 1758) teologo statunitense. Pastore della chiesa congregazionalista di Northampton (Massachusetts), animò il primo «grande risveglio» religioso americano con i suoi terribili sermoni sulla precarietà dell’uomo davanti a Dio e sulle realtà della dannazione. Il suo Trattato sulla libertà del volere (A careful and strict inquiry... Freedom of Will, 1754), è considerato il testo più rilevante del calvinismo americano.
