Semperoper Dresden presents an historic performance of Tristan and Isolde, directed by Marco Arturo Marelli and conducted by world-leading conductor Christian Thielemann. The sound he obtains from the Wagnerian score “fills the room with elegiac longing, drawing listeners into the emotional depths of the famous lovers." Richard Wagner

(Lipsia 1813 - Venezia 1883) musicista e scrittore tedesco. Figura emblematica del passaggio dal primo al secondo romanticismo tedesco, credette in gioventù negli ideali libertari e partecipò alla sollevazione di Dresda nel 1849. Dopo il fallimento dei moti rivoluzionari, fu influenzato dal pessimismo metafisico di Schopenhauer e finì per incarnare un ideale artistico ambiguamente etico-religioso, nel quale - soprattutto dopo la creazione del teatro «sacrale» di Bayreuth - si riconobbe, in parte, la borghesia tedesca del tardo Ottocento e del primo Novecento. La sua concezione dell’«opera d’arte totale», fusione di musica, poesia e arte figurativa (e al tempo stesso rappresentazione sacra e nazionale), lo condusse a essere l’autore di tutti i testi poetici dei suoi drammi musicali, che spesso...
