This audiobook is narrated by a digital voice. This essay sheds light on what is blindness, explicates the different types of blindness, demystifies the various causes of blindness, delineates the health effects of succumbing to blindness, and reveals the health optimization measures to follow for potentially reducing the risk of succumbing to blindness. Succinctly stated, blindness refers to an adverse medical condition in which a person has low vision in his eyes or absolutely no vision in his eyes. There are a myriad of disparate types of blindness. “Blindness can manifest differently” among people who have succumbed to blindness. Some of the different types of blindness encompass “total blindness, partial blindness, legal blindness, congenital blindness, nutritional blindness, night blindness, and functional blindness”. Succumbing to blindness can not only induce chronic stress, but can also adversely impinge on a person’s well-being. Furthermore, succumbing to blindness can also potentially adversely impinge on a person quality of life. Total blindness is deemed to be the utmost severe type of blindness. “Total blindness refers to “the inability to see anything, including light”. As of 2026, total blindness is not deemed to be the most prevalent type of blindness among people who have succumbed to blindness. “Total blindness only occurs in about 15% of eye disorders”. Partial blindness is another type of blindness. Partial blindness refers to low vision in the eyes. Even though a person who has partial blindness has limited vision in his eyes, it does not denote that his vision in his eyes is not severely compromised. A person is susceptible to succumb to egregiously low vision in his eyes if he has partial blindness. Legal blindness is another type of blindness. “Legal blindness refers to highly compromised vision. What a person with regular vision can see from 200 feet away, a legally blind person can see from only 20 feet away”.
