Isabel Colegate è una delle più note scrittrici britanniche. Figlia di Sir Arthur e Winifred Mary Colegate, ha studiato alla Runton Hill School di Norfolk e fino al 2007 ha vissuto in uno stravagante castello gotico-settecentesco nei pressi di Bath. Sposata con tre figli, nel 1981 ha vinto con La battuta di caccia il W.H. Smith Literary Award. Nel 1985, il romanzo è diventato un celebre film diretto da Alan Bridges.
