Boggiano heirs
What remains of Antonio Boggiano, who was born in Savona in 1778 and died in Trinidad, Cuba in 1860? Enterprising, shrewd, wealthy, indeed, one may even say rich, at least at certain points in his life. He commissioned a beautiful white marble altar that today stands in Trinidad’s most important church. A strict yet loving father of numerous sons and daughters. A man who, before ending his life, and falling into oblivion, left numerous traces of his laborious journey: traces that are easily discoverable with the tools of historical research, which in cases like this one seem to be very sharp, and able to cut deep. But there is also something else, and on closer inspection this is what mostly remains of Boggiano. A seed from the days of the colony, steeped in greed and malice, which over time has been transformed and, in perpetuating itself, has lost the bitter taste of its origins. The essay is followed by a conversation between the author and Seph Rodney.
