Dead Letters

Mara Venn sorts undeliverable mail for a living. Wrong addresses. Missing postcodes. People who have moved away. Then a letter arrives from 2058. It shouldn't exist. Neither should the next one. Soon, letters are appearing from years that haven't happened yet — birthday cards, warnings, apologies and ordinary fragments of lives still decades away. And some of them are addressed to people who haven't even been born. At first, Mara thinks the impossible mail is predicting the future. She is wrong. The letters aren't showing her one future. They're travelling between countless versions of it. As impossible postmarks multiply and reality begins rewriting itself around the people receiving them, Mara discovers something even more disturbing. Somewhere between the letters that are sent and the letters that arrive is a place for everything history can no longer deliver. Including people. And Mara may be one of them. To stop the Mail from consuming every possible version of the future, she will have to uncover where the first impossible letter came from — and decide whether anyone has the right to choose which version of history survives. A dark, distinctly British science-fiction mystery about time, identity, choice and the terrifying consequences of receiving a letter that was never meant to reach you.
