(Lincolnshire 1574 ca - Londra 1641 ca) drammaturgo inglese. Tipico esponente del tardo periodo elisabettiano, fu autore di numerosi drammi e commedie (sembra 220): Edoardo IV (King Edward the fourth, 1599), La bella fanciulla dell’Occidente (The fair maid of the West, 1631), Il viaggiatore inglese (The english traveller, 1633). La caratteristica più originale del teatro di H. è il tono dimesso, «domestico» delle sue tragedie borghesi, tra le quali spicca Una donna uccisa con la clemenza (A woman killed with kindness, 1603). Scrisse inoltre il poema La gerarchia degli angeli benedetti (The hierarchy of the blessed angels, 1635).
